PERSONAL VIEWS: THE ART COMIC STRIP
International artist team Grennan & Sperandio have been working with The Milton
Keynes Citizen newspaper to create an innovative project to raise the profile
of public
art within Milton Keynes and encourage residents to look anew at the art in their
city.
The artists have created a series of comic strips published in the paper, based
on
residents' stories of artworks in Milton Keynes. Stories have been submitted by
schoolchildren, businessmen, artists and a Councillor. They range from childhood
memories of playing science fiction games round Eilis O'Connell's The Space
Between to dressing up as a jockey and riding Elisabeth Frink's Black Horse.
The comic strips have been running in the Citizen since August and will also appear
in Milton Keynes Council's Messenger magazine.
Grennan & Sperandio have worked with people from all walks of life on both
sides
of the Atlantic, resulting in the creation of comic books, animated films, and
even a bar
of chocolate. They have worked with a broad range of partners from community
groups and local authorities to the Museum of Modern Art in New York and MTV.
Personal Views is an Artpoint project for Milton Keynes Council, supported by
Southern Arts and produced in association with Milton Keynes Citizen and
Milton Keynes Gallery.
